Come To Our Cozy Italian Home

The impetus to build Salute Wine Bar came out of Dominic Gaziano, Salute's owner's need to share a home sick yearning for that conforting and nurturing Italian cuisine. The wine bar sprung up from a desire  to share with Chicago everything  that amazing country Italy has to offer, the cuisine, wine and accomidating hospitality and warmth of the Italians. Coming to Salute is like coming home for lunch or dinner.

Located in the historic Gold Coast neighborhood, Salute is housed in the rehabbed pre-Victorian Hennessy House and boasts an approachable Italian wine list reigning from 20 regions, coupled with Italian comfort fare.

Salute’s warm atmosphere encompasses a variety of elements paying homage to Italy and family traditions inspired by Gaziano’s upbringing. As a first generation Italian-American, Gaziano grew up learning Calabrian and Sicilian culinary traditions instilled by his mother, who is a gourmet cook and author. Gaziano and his four brothers spent many Sundays preparing elaborate gourmet meals together, which ultimately led to Gaziano’s interest in hosting and entertaining at his Lincoln Park home. As an internal medical doctor, author of “Feel Good Health,” and nationally syndicated health show, “Health and Lifestyles Weekly,” Gaziano wants to bring Chicago a genuine Italian experience combined with the health benefits of the Mediterranean culture, food and wine.

Located on the lower level of the 130-year-old building, Salute embodies both traditional and modern Italian touches. Upon entering, patrons will find an oversized tree stump, handpicked by Gaziano to serve as a welcoming gesture. The stump provides a natural communal spot intertwined with the bar; a focal point reflecting a comfortable area where patrons can convene. Salute’s charm is mirrored throughout the space with warm butter yellow, maroon and sunset orange hues, complimented by cherry wood tables and flooring. Mirrors and a montage of black and white photos of Italy adorn the restored brick walls, while delicate silk light fixtures hang from the low-slung ceiling. Adding to the ambiance is an original white and grey marbled fireplace with a large painting hanging overhead. Finally, comfortable deep red couches create a lounge area adjoined by a window seat up front, while the “Cove,” a small nook situated toward the back of the space, is offered for patrons that prefer more of private experience.

Salute Wine Bar & Cafe features hardy bistro diner selections for lunch and dinner. Come enjoy personal pizzas, brochette, seasonal salads, artisanal regional Italian cheeses and meats and the best meatballs in Chicago. Enjoy a glass a wine, homemade lemon Cello or Specialty Italian cocktails on our Tuscan style patio with wrought iron tables and chairs.
